1、春节
the Spring Festival (New Year's Day of the Chinese lunar calendar)

春节是中国最重要的节日。
Spring Festival is the most important festival in China.

春节是为了庆祝农历新年的来临。除夕夜,一家人聚在一起吃一顿丰盛的年夜饭。
It's to celebrate the lunar calendar's new year. In the evening before the Spring Festival, families get together and have a big meal.

在很多地方,人们都会放鞭炮。饺子是最传统的食物。
In many places people like to set off firecrackers. Dumplings are the most traditional food.

孩子们非常喜欢这个节日,因为他们可以有好吃的食物同时可以穿新衣服。
Children like the festival very much, because they can have delicious food and wear new clothes.

他们也能得到父母给的压岁钱。
They can also get some money from their parents.

压岁钱给孩子们,以求好运。
This money is given to children for good luck.

人们把春联贴到墙上,以求好运。
People put New Year scrolls on the wall for good fortune.

春节将持续大约15天,人们在拜访亲朋好友前常用这句话:“祝愿”。
The Spring Festival lasts about 15 days long. People visit relatives and friends with the words "Have all your wishes".

人们喜欢春节,因为在这段时间里他们可以好好休息一下了。
People enjoy the Spring Festival, during this time they can have a good rest.

2、元宵节
the Lantern Festival

元宵节在农历正月十五。一年中,这一天第一次出现满月。
The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month. It is the first night to see a full moon in a lunar year.

人们到街上或公园观赏花灯。
People usually go to watch lanterns in the streets or in the parks.

At the festival people eat Yuanxiao - small dumpling halls. It means family reunion and happiness.

3、清明节
the Qing Ming Festival

清明节是中国24节气之一,在公历四月的四日到六日之间。
The Qingming (Pure Brightness) Festival is one of the 24 solar terms in China, falling on April 4-6 each year.

清明过后,气温上升,雨水增加。这是春耕播种的好时机。
After the festival, the temperature will rise up and rainfall increase. It is the high time for spring plowing and sowing.

清明节家家都要去祭拜祖先,为离世的亲人扫墓。
Families will visit their ancestors' graves and clean up the tombs during the Qing Ming Festival.

4、端午节
the Dragon-Boat Festival

端午节在农历五月初五。
The Dragon-Boat festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month.

端午节是中国的传统节日,人们在这天要吃粽子,赛龙舟,以纪念伟大的诗人屈原。
Dragon-boat festival is in memory of Quyuan - an ancient great poet. At that day, people will eat sticky rice dumpling and have dragon boat races.

5、中秋节
the MidAutumn Festival (the Moon Festival)

中秋节在农历八月十五日。
The Mid-autumn festival falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month.

中秋节是中国农历的两个最重要的日子之一(另一个是春节),也是中国的法定假日。
The Mid-autumn festival is one of the two most important occasions in Chinese calendar (the other being the Spring Festival or the Chinese New Year) and it is an official holiday.

这天晚上月亮又圆又亮。人们一边吃月饼,一边赏月。
At night this day, the moon is usually round and bright. People can enjoy the moon while eating the moon-cakes which are the special food for this festival.

这天是家人团圆的日子,远方的游子会凝望明月,思念家人。
It is a time for families to be together, so people far from home will gaze longingly at the moon and think about their families.

中秋节的传统食物是圆圆的月饼,它寓意团圆。
The traditional food for mid-autumn festival is the moon cake which is round and symbolizes reunion.

6、重阳节
the Chong Yang Festival (the Double Ninth Festival)

农历九月初九是中国传统节日重阳节。
The ninth day of the ninth lunar month is the Chong Yang Festival, a traditional festival in China.

人们以爬山、观赏菊花、吃重阳饼等活动庆祝重阳节。
The celebrating activities are various and romantic, including climbing mountains, appreciating chrysanthemums, wearing dogwoods , eating the Chong Yang cake and so on.
